6th Annual Awards/Recognition Banquet

On Monday, April 26th, the Department of Construction Systems held their Sixth Annual Awards/Recognition Banquet at the W.H. Thompson Alumni Center, at UNO North Campus. One hundred and twenty students, alumni, faculty and industry friends attended the semi-formal event.

This year's theme was The Creation and Strengthening of Relationships between Academia and Industry. For the past five years, the event has been held as a way to recognize the students for outstanding achievements, in and out of the classroom. In keeping with the theme this year, Construction Systems also recognized outstanding alumnus, organizations, and friends of the department. Winning the award for Outstanding Alumnus was John Taylor, of the Weitz Company. The Outstanding Friend of the Department went to Don Wrieth, of Kiewit Construction Company. The Organization of the Year was presented to the Waldinger Corporation.

Over twenty students were recognized for their scholastic achievements and for their involvement in Sigma Lambda Chi, the AGC Student Chapter, The new DBIA Student Chapter and the Region IV ASC/AGC Competition. This year, students from UNO placed second in the Heavy Highway and Commercial Building Division and placed third in the Design Build Division of the competition held in Nebraska City. Also recognized by the students as this year is Outstanding Faculty Member Stuart Bernstein.

All in all, it was excellent evening. It seemed that everyone had a great time, and a good meal. Most importantly, though, new relationships were created and old ones were strengthened.
